By now, I think it’s pretty clear that the love we have for our creators is endless and to say we value and appreciate their work would be an understatement. Our creators provide so much more than just content for Packsia — they are constant sources of inspiration for us and the many artists from around the world that are a part of the online community we have created, and for that reason we are so proud to work with them.
MEET MARTIN GARRO
Among our various creators is Martin of Boltion Graphics. Hailing from Buenos Aires, Martin is an audiovisual artist with 20 years of experience creating 2D & 3D animation, motion graphics and VFX for film and advertising. He is passionate about technology and always strives to remain at the forefront of trends…and it shows!
We instantly fell in love with Martin’s art, particularly with his use of iridescents and glitters that have, to date, proven to be some of Packsia's most popular videos. We spoke with Martin to dive into his creative process, where he draws inspiration, and to get to know him better overall!
Enjoy!
PACKSIA: HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN VIDEOGRAPHY?
BG: I studied Graphic Design in the year 2000 at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. I was always attracted to the moving image. At that time the concept of Motion Graphics became popular. I started animating in Flash, creating web pages. Then I moved on to After Effects and Premiere, stopping programming and focusing more on the video. At that time I also bought my first digital camera, which could record in 640x480 pixels at 30 fps :). With the camera I did all the experiments I could imagine with photography and video (there were no cell phones with cameras). I kept developing my career as a 2d and 3d animator, and also doing VFX, in different studios and as a freelancer. Going through different roles in each job. Until I get to set up my studio, with a very small structure, but achieving my independence.
All the experience that I had in each place that I worked, I was able to apply it to be able to develop as a freelancer.
These new post-pandemic times where all the ventures that circulate on the networks became relevant, allowed me to make a change of focus in my way of working, I do not have to serve the client directly and this allows me to have my own creative flight achieving pieces that can be useful to many people.
I want to mention the artist Motion Box, collaborator of Packsia. That she not only recommended this page to me, but she also helped me and my girlfriend (Kimchi, also a member of Packsia) a lot to make this leap to be Videographers. Her generous and enormous contribution of knowledge and motivation inspired us to take this path. We will always be grateful. This road is sometimes lonely. It is essential to generate networks and help each other, from collaboration and not competition.
There are many pages that sell artist content. But I feel that Packsia is very different from all of them, because it proposes a friendly system for the creator. Where you don't have to fill out forms full of tags and metadata, (which for me is the worst part of the job hehe). Packsia proposes a different and new format, understanding the needs of networks today and adapting to it. In addition to a humane and pleasant treatment with its members and collaborators.
P: WHAT INSPIRES YOU WHEN CREATING VIDEO/MOTION PACKS?
BG: When creating a video pack, I always wonder if I would use that pack for something. If that pack really works for me, surely it works for someone else. And if it doesn't work for me, well, what would I have to change to make it work for me? and I change it.
Then I try to find what interests me. What is calling my attention at that moment? Can be anything. And then see if that adapts to what the market asks for.
If I achieve that, I know I have a good product on my hands.
P: HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR AESTHETIC/STYLE?
BG: I really like to make 3d simulations, moving particles, physics, render details, lighting, textures. Although my style is very varied. I also love the camera. The freedom one feels when framing and playing with a video camera. I really like filming outdoors and when I connect with people and things through the camera, I enter "another world" where time no longer exists. In the same way, playing with the lights in a photography studio, applying the concepts that I learned about lighting in 3d, is exciting for me.
P: WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO FUTURE CREATORS WITH PACKSIA?
BG: Constancy and patience. When I talk to colleagues, we agree that this is not about a short and fast 100 meter race. It is a 42 km marathon. The results are not seen in the short term, they are seen in the medium term.
It is very easy to feel discouraged at first. You have to fight against this demotivation and be constant with your work, knowing that you don't reach your goal in a month, but in more time, but that the final results are much more satisfactory. The business model is scalable, one stops exchanging time for money. It is the ideal model for those of us who make digital products.
We can achieve freedom and be truly creative, propose our own challenges and projects.
Packsia is a platform different from all the others, where the artist can focus on creating and not on tagging images. They also do an excellent marketing job, so your work shines much more. You see them applied in the networks and they are incredible. And that work helps your products reach more people and that we all benefit.
